Ever wondered what all the rage is about with Essential Oils?
Well, if I had to sum up why I love them, its because they provide quick, easy, and beautiful solutions to my everyday needs. Basically, essential oils are natural and effective.
There are so many oils on the market, and even more ways you can use them! But don’t let that intimidate you. As the old saying goes: “every expert was once a beginner”!
Although it’s easy to become overwhelmed with options, I am a big believer in keeping things simple!
You don’t need to have every oil on the market to know that essential oils are awesome.
I’ve tested out all kinds of essential oils to see how they can improve my everyday life. Most importantly, I wanted to find oils that I would use frequently, with little to no extra work involved. Oils that were so easy, anyone can use them.
So if you are a beginner who just wants to try out a couple of key oils, have no fear, the top 5 essential oils listed below are an amazing place for you to get started!
1. TEA TREE OIL
Use: Acne Face Mist
To start this list off with a bang, Tea Tree Oil is one of the most extensively studied essential oils out on the market! This oil comes from an Australian tree, Melaleuca and has been found to have major antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that make it amazing for acne.
Try using it as a natural alternative for breakouts in lieu of harsh topical prescription ointments.
I love mixing a couple of drops of tea tree oil with water into a small spray bottle for a post workout mist. I especially love doing this after an intense group workout like Spin or Hot Yoga; when the room is damp from everyone else’s bodily whatevers. You just don’t want that seeping into your pores.
Pro Tip: You can also put this mist in the refrigerator and give yourself a refreshing morning wake up call.
Honestly this spray is so simple and smells so amazing, it will make you feel like Beyonce on her best day.
Use: Natural Surface Cleaner
In addition to it’s invigorating and energizing citrus scent. Did you know that lemon essential oils can be used to create a natural all-purpose cleaner?
All you need is:
Boom. Thats it. Now you have a natural cleaner that will make your house smell fresh.
Use: Promote Sleep & Reduce Wrinkles
I use my lavender essential oil two ways:
I drop a generous helping into my diffuser to let my room fill with this scent before bedtime to enhance my relaxation and sleep. My body is now familiar with this scent and associates it with going to sleep. This gets me in a bedtime routine that helps me wind down.
Second, I mix it with coconut oil and apply to my face at night. Lavender is moisturizing and increases blood flow to the skin. This increased circulation brings nutrients and oxygen to your skin cells that can help repair wrinkles.
Use: Treat Nausea
Peppermint is great for when you or loved ones have an upset stomach or nausea.
It’s menthol properties prove to be a strong antispasmodic that help calm spasms in the stomach and intestines.
I will either rub some on my temples or put a couple drops into my hands and take a couple of deep, calming breathes in.
Just be aware that it does have leave a tingling sensation on the skin and will burn if you get this oil too close you your eyes, so don’t get too crazy with that peppermint!
Use: Breath Right
Eucalyptus is an important oil in my home because my boyfriend suffers from terrible asthma. It is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and decongestant in nature.
However, even if you don’t suffer from asthma, Eucalyptus oil aids in all sorts of respiratory problems such as: common cold, cough, running nose, sore throat and even bronchitis.
All you have to do is massage 3 drops onto the chest and the aroma will calm the throat and dilate the blood vessels, allowing more oxygen into the lungs!
As long as you have a couple of these oils and a couple minutes to use them, you’re off to a great start. They are practical, easy ways to enhance your everday lives.
If you really become a lover of essential oils like myself (and I really hope you do), you can explore all the different oils out there. Amazon sells bundle packages that includes a diffuser as well as a variety of popular essential oils.
But for most of us, we just need a couple simple, awesome oils to get started. These are as simple as it gets, and anyone can do it!
